Founder's Message

In 1994, I held my brother’s hand as a doctor told him that his cancer was untreatable. As I think back to that moment, I realize just how many people would have accepted that diagnosis and given up. Thankfully, Jake knew better. He sought a second opinion from Dr. Robert Nagourney, a leader in assay directed therapy.

Our Mission

Vanguard is defined in Webster's Dictionary as "the forefront of an action or movement"

This defines our foundation, for we exist to advance the forefront of cancer therapeutics. By empowering patients through education, awareness and financial assistance, we enable individual patients to pursue innovative and personalized approaches to their disease. Cancer patients are not statistics and they do not respond according to predetermined textbook expectations. Rather, each patient is different and must be given the opportunity to explore a variety of treatment options to identify those most likely to prove efficacious. Despite current trends toward uniformity of care and the focus upon cost-containment, all cancers are not created equal. We have a responsibility to further awareness of available resources to develop effective and tolerable therapies that meet the needs of all patients, as unique individuals... "One Patient at a Time".
